Based in northern New South Wales, Kuhnell Architecture is a design studio specialising in residential, commercial and retail architecture. From its home-base in Brunswick Heads, the practice brings a grounded, place-responsive approach to projects across the region and beyond.

Peter’s design philosophy is grounded in the tangible: a formative early career in carpentry exposed him to real building sites, diverse construction projects and the tactile interplay of materials, structure and craftsmanship. This hands-on foundation continues to shape his architectural work, allowing a seamless bridge between thoughtful design and rigorous construction execution.

Alongside the practice, Peter teaches Design Studio at Bond University.

In both his practice and teaching, Peter’s aim is to translate layered and responsive design thinking into clear, buildable outcomes. His dual expertise — from craft-based building to architectural theory — seeks to ensure that every project is not just envisioned, but realised with clarity, quality and durability.

Kuhnell Architecture acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live and work, and is committed to respectful and sustainable design outcomes that respond to place, community and climate.
